Garden Castle is a name that is taken from a peak in the Drakensberg that is located nearby. The peak itself was originally named Giant's Castle in 1835, but was renamed in 1865 by Surveyor-General Dr Peter Sutherland after the maiden name of his mother, Garden. (GPS coordinates: 29.7726 S, 29.2145 E).
