Adams Rural is located to the east of Adams Mission, which was established in 1836 and named after the American missionary Dr Newton Adams who arrived in Natal in 1835. The mission was destroyed by Dingaan but rebuilt in 1839. (GPS coordinates: 30.0341 S, 30.787 E).
