Meqheleng adjoins the town of Ficksburg and is located right on the national border between South Africa and Lesotho. The township's name is taken from the mountain nearby. The township, as well as neighbouring Ficksburg, was the scene of a violent service delivery protests in April 2010 (GPS coordinates: 28.8972 S, 27.8774 E).
