Edenburg was established on the farm Rietfontein in 1862. The name is thought to be either of biblical origin or an adaptation of Edinburgh, the birthplace in Scotland of the Reverend Andrew Murray (1828-1917). (GPS coordinates: 29.7288 S, 25.9345 E).
