Humansdorp was established on the farm Rheeboksfontein in 1849. It was named Humansdorp (at first 'Human se Dorp') after Matthys Gerhardus Human, owner of the farm. Translated from Afrikaans, it means 'Human's town'. (GPS coordinates: 33.9993 S, 24.7447 E).
