Murraysburg was established in 1856 on the farm Eenzaamheid and was named after two individuals: the Reverend Andrew Murray Senior, who was minister of Graaff-Reinet, and Barend O J Burger, who played a role in the establishment of the town. (GPS coordinates: 31.9617 S, 23.7775 E).
