Groot Jongensfontein is a small villiage. Its name is derived from a Dutch expedition to the area in the early 1700's, which reported a fountein ('spring') in the area, as well as encounters with young Khoi individuals, whom they referred to as zwarte jongens ('black youth'). The name is thus translated as 'great youth spring'. (GPS coordinates: 34.4256 S, 21.3357 E).
