Mcgregor was originally named Lady Grey. The name was changed to avoid confusion with the a town of the same name in KwaZulu-Natal. It was renamed after Reverend Andrew McGregor who was the Dutch Reformed Church minister of the Robertson District. The town is part of the broader wine route network of the Western Cape and is situated at one end of the popular Boesmanskloof Trail. (GPS coordinates: 33.9407 S, 19.8225 E).
