Khutsong means 'place of rest'. In 2006, the township was transferred from Gauteng Province to North West Province as a result of changes in provincial borders. This decision led to protest action, as residents believed that they would receive poorer quality service from North West. In 2009, the area was reintegrated into Gauteng Province. (GPS coordinates: 26.3395 S, 27.3216 E).
