Krugersdorp was named after President Paul Kruger of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek ('Kruger's town') and was established on the farm Paardekraal in 1887. The site was originally an area consisting of public gold-diggings. (GPS coordinates: 26.0874 S, 27.7526 E).
