Hartbeestfontein B is named after the farm on which it was established. The name of the farm was derived from an incident in which two Voortrekkers, chasing a wounded hartebeest, found the animal dead at a spring. Translated, the name is Afrikaans for 'hartebeest spring'. (GPS coordinates: 26.7646 S, 26.4279 E).
